The Fayette County Clerk of Courts has an online searchable database for civil and criminal cases in the Common Pleas General Division. You can search by case number, hearing date, or party name. Records from 2001 to the present are available through the main portal. If you need older cases, there is a separate Record Search Portal for pre-2001 filings. The system may have temporary issues during software upgrades, so check back if the portal is down.

Criminal case records show the charges, docket entries, hearing dates, and case dispositions. Certified copies are available at statutory rates. The Clerk also handles domestic relations cases including divorce records. A public records request form is available on the website but is not required. Under ORC 149.43, you can ask for records in any form you choose.

The website also has a sex offender registry search and a public records request form. Public records requests can be submitted by phone, fax, email, or mail. You do not need to use a special form, but one is available on the website. Records can be released by email in PDF format at no charge. If you need hard copies, standard copy fees apply. Video requests may require a $75 deposit. Traffic crash reports are available free through the Ohio Traffic Data website. All jail visits are done through a video recording system, and visitation is scheduled through the CIDnet website.

Criminal Records at Washington Court House Municipal Court

The Washington Court House Municipal Court is at 119 North Main Street. Call (740) 636-2350 for information. The court handles misdemeanor criminal charges, traffic violations, civil cases up to $15,000, and small claims up to $6,000. It also conducts preliminary hearings for felony cases before they go to Common Pleas Court.

You can search municipal court records online by name, case number, or citation number. The online system shows basic case information for traffic and misdemeanor cases. Sealed and confidential cases are not available through public searches. Copy fees follow Ohio Revised Code rates. Online payment may be available for certain citations.

Public Access to Fayette County Criminal Records

Fayette County follows Ohio's Public Records Act under ORC 149.43. Criminal court records are public. You can view them during business hours without stating a reason. The Clerk of Courts has a public records request form but does not require one. Just tell them what records you need.

Under ORC 2953.32, certain criminal records in Fayette County can be sealed after the required waiting period. The application costs $50 plus local court costs. First and second degree felonies, violent felonies, and sex offenses are excluded. Once sealed, the records no longer appear in public case searches. Juvenile records are confidential under Ohio law.

The Fayette County Probate Court is on the 2nd floor at 110 East Court Street. It handles estates, guardianships, and marriage licenses. Marriage records from February 1988 to the present are at the Probate Court. Older marriage records going back to 1810 are at the Fayette County Records and Archive Center at 201 South Fayette Street.
