Huron County Clerk of Courts Criminal Records

The Huron County Clerk of Courts is the main office for criminal case files in the Court of Common Pleas. The office sits at 2 East Main Street in Norwalk. The Common Pleas Court in Huron County handles felony criminal cases along with civil suits over $15,000 and domestic relations matters. Criminal records from this court show the defendant's name, charges filed, hearing dates, and case status. You can also see attorney details and docket entries for each case. The Clerk keeps records for the 6th District Court of Appeals too, so appellate case files are on hand at the same office. Records go back to 1988 in the online system. Cases filed before that year need an in-person visit to look up. The Huron County Clerk of Courts website has a case search portal where you can look up criminal records by name, case number, or file date.

The Huron County Sheriff's Office keeps arrest records, jail rosters, and incident reports. The office is at 255 Shady Lane Drive in Norwalk. You can call (419) 663-2828 for general inquiries. A public jail roster is posted online and shows current inmates with booking details.

Arrest records from the Sheriff's Office include the person's name, date of birth, home address, arrest date and time, location of the arrest, charges filed, and bond information. The inmate roster gets updated regularly and lists mugshots along with the charges for each person held at the county jail. The office also tracks sex offenders through the Ohio Attorney General's registry system. You can search for registered offenders in Huron County through that statewide database.

Background checks through the Sheriff's Office cost $35 for a BCI check and $35 for an FBI check. A combined BCI and FBI check runs $65 total. You must show up in person for fingerprinting. Norwalk Municipal Court Criminal Records

The Norwalk Municipal Court handles misdemeanor cases and traffic violations in most of Huron County. Its jurisdiction covers all areas except Lyme and Sherman Townships. The court is at 45 N. Linwood Avenue in Norwalk. Call (419) 663-6750 for questions.

You can search municipal court criminal records online at the Norwalk Municipal Court website. The search tool lets you look up cases by name, case number, citation number, or driver's license number. Results show the charges, court dates, fines, and case outcome. Keep in mind there is at least a 24-hour delay between when something gets filed and when it shows up in the online system. For the most current information, call the court or visit during business hours. The court is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

The electronic case file is the official court record. Paper copies may be disposed of at any time since the digital version takes priority.

Public Access to Huron County Criminal Records

Ohio's Public Records Act gives anyone the right to view criminal records in Huron County. You do not need to give a reason for your request. The Clerk's office follows ORC 149.43 and construes all exemptions in their narrowest sense, which means they lean toward releasing records rather than holding them back.

Some records are restricted. Sealed and expunged cases under ORC 2953.32 are not available to the public. Juvenile case files stay closed. Records tied to active investigations may also be held back by law enforcement. Personal identifiers like Social Security numbers get redacted before any records are released. Civil protection orders and civil stalking protection orders are not available through the online portal for safety reasons.

Standard copies from the Clerk cost $0.10 per page. Certified copies run $1.00 per page plus a certification fee. The office accepts cash, checks, and credit cards. Credit card payments include a processing fee. Online searches are free for basic case information.
