Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Criminal Records

The Hamilton County Clerk of Courts is the central records office for all courts in the county. The main office is at 1000 Main Street, Room 375, Cincinnati, OH 45202. Call 513-946-5656 for general info. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Clerk maintains records for the Court of Common Pleas (General Division, Domestic Relations, Juvenile, and Probate), the Hamilton County Municipal Court, and the 1st District Court of Appeals.

You can search Hamilton County criminal records through the Clerk of Courts online records search. The system lets you search by name across all courts at once, or narrow it down to a specific court. Case number searches and Common Pleas lien number searches are also available. Results show case summaries and full case history. The My Portfolio feature lets you save searches. Other tools on the site include Certified Mail lookup, Notary Name Search, Judgment Interest Rates, and Grand Jury Reports.

Digital case files go back to about 1991. The office notes that some documents may not be available online due to data mining concerns that have slowed the redaction process. If you believe a document exists but cannot find it online, visit the office in person or submit a request through the online form. The Clerk is not required to offer remote access to every case file under Rule 45(C) of the Ohio Rules of Superintendence.

The Traffic Division handles over 50,000 traffic tickets each year and processes about 40,000 arrest warrants. The Civil Division handles more than 35,000 civil suits yearly and over 12,000 evictions. These numbers give you a sense of the volume that moves through Hamilton County courts.

Hamilton County Municipal Court Criminal Cases

The Hamilton County Municipal Court handles criminal, traffic, and housing cases. The Municipal Criminal/Traffic Division is at 1000 Sycamore Street, 1st Floor, Cincinnati, OH 45202. Call (513) 946-6040 for the criminal division or (513) 946-6010 for bond services. This division is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for bond posting and warrant processing.

Online case search is available through the Clerk's records portal. You can search by name, case number, or court division. Records show charges, dispositions, fines, and court costs. Payments are accepted by cash, credit and debit cards, and certified checks. Bonds can be posted with cash, Mastercard, Visa, American Express, or Discover at any hour.

Bond refund checks get issued Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, at the Clerk of Courts Office, 3rd Floor, Room 315. Note that parking tickets for the City of Cincinnati have been processed separately since January 2020 through the City's Office of Administrative Hearings at 805 Central Ave, Suite 110.

The Sheriff handles arrest records, incident reports, accident reports, active warrants, and the jail roster for the county. This includes the City of Cincinnati and all other areas in Hamilton County.

Local criminal record checks at the Justice Center cost $5. Statewide BCI checks cost $32. Nationwide FBI checks cost $36. The Records Division at the Justice Center processes all criminal record check requests in person. The online inmate search shows who is currently being held. The sex offender registry is searchable through the Ohio Attorney General's system. Under ORC 149.43, most arrest and incident records are public. Active investigation records may be withheld. Juvenile records are confidential.

Public Access to Hamilton County Criminal Records

Hamilton County follows Ohio's public records law. Criminal court files at the Clerk of Courts are open for viewing during business hours. No reason is needed to look at them. The office responds to requests under ORC 149.43.

Sealed and expunged records are not available. Juvenile cases are closed. Under ORC 2953.32, eligible defendants in Hamilton County can apply to seal their criminal records. The fee is $50 plus local costs. Violent felonies and sex crimes cannot be sealed. In 2025, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the Hamilton County Clerk must follow municipal judges' orders about making certain eviction records available online, which shows how access rules can change based on court decisions.
