Delaware County Clerk of Courts Criminal Records

The Delaware County Clerk of Courts manages all criminal case files for the Common Pleas Court. The main office is at 117 North Union Street, Level 300, in Delaware. The Delaware County Clerk of Courts runs a strong online system. You can search case dockets, court schedules, party names, case numbers, and filed documents all from the website. Criminal case records show the charges, hearing dates, attorney names, and dispositions. E-filing is available for attorneys and pro se parties. The system is updated regularly, though there may be a short delay between filings and when they appear online.

The Clerk also has a separate Title Division office at 8647 Columbus Pike in Lewis Center. That office handles motor vehicle titles only and does not process criminal records requests. Passport applications are accepted by appointment at the main office.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is at 1776 State Route 521 in Delaware. Call (740) 833-2801 for general inquiries. The Sheriff's Office processes about 2,500 bookings each year. The average stay is 17 days. About 72% of those arrested are male and 28% are female.

The online inmate lookup shows current inmates with their mugshot, full name, booking date, age, gender, race, date of birth, hair and eye color, arresting agency, address, scheduled release, and charges. Background checks are available at the Sheriff's Office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A BCI criminal record check costs $40. An FBI check is also $40. Criminal case files at the Sheriff's Office are retained for 50 years. Jail activity logs are kept for 3 years when there is no pending action. Records follow Ohio History Connection schedules for long-term storage.

Criminal Records at Delaware Municipal Court

The Delaware County Municipal Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic violations, civil cases up to $15,000, small claims, and preliminary felony hearings. The court is at 70 N. Union Street in Delaware. Call (740) 833-2600 for questions.

You can search municipal court records online by defendant name, case number, citation number, or filing date. The court is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Copy fees follow Ohio Revised Code rates. Online payment is available for some fines and court costs. Sealed and confidential cases are restricted from public view.

Public Access to Delaware County Criminal Records

Delaware County follows the Ohio Public Records Act under ORC 149.43. Criminal court records are public. Anyone can view them during business hours without stating a reason. Most arrest records are also public. Juvenile records, medical records, and confidential investigation files are exempt from disclosure.

Under ORC 2953.32, certain criminal records can be sealed after a waiting period. The fee is $50 plus local court costs. Violent felonies, sex offenses, and first or second degree felonies cannot be sealed. The Delaware County Probate Court at 117 N. Union Street handles estates, guardianships, and marriage licenses.
